<image:title>AVL Approach - The Academic Venture Lab Model</image:title>
<image:caption>The Academic Venture Lab (AVL) is a catalyst for creating value for entrepreneurial ideas, academic research and technological discoveries. We bring collaborators together by leveraging research excellence at top academic institutions across the US and create companies from two approaches – 1) optimizing existing discoveries and 2) building from a “need in search of a solution”. In particular, we are focused on enabling companies that do not require large amounts of capital in order to create value and generate revenue. The AVL methodology is straightforward and we tap into our deep network of serial entrepreneurs and investors to lead efficient acceleration of early-stage development towards growth. Using the methodology presented here, we work with 3-6 early-stage companies at our Lab in Hanover, NH and 2-3 entrepreneurs remotely. New offering: Using our knowledge from 20 years working with MBA students, early-stage entrepreneurs and mature companies, we recently launched a series of competitions, workshops, one-on-one adviser sessions and coaching support for budding entrepreneurs, problem-solvers and anyone interested in making valuable contributions to solve real-world problems (personally or professionally). Check our current workshop and lab list here.</image:caption>

<image:title>Aspiring Entrepreneurs - The Entrepreneurial Approach - Lab for Female Scientists and Researchers</image:title>
<image:caption>These are small group Labs allowing for individual, hands-on help. Join a cohort of female peers learning how to translate scientific work into business value. This 4-week Lab uses design thinking to help you form a compelling argument about the market need for your discovery and its corresponding business model. By the end of the Lab, you will understand the steps needed to translate your discovery into a business and will have a “go” or “no-go” decision about moving forward. Cohort members can use the work created in this Lab in SBIR/STTR applications and investor pitches. Come to the Lab with a business idea or an academic discovery to explore. We take you through a series of entrepreneurial-thinking and audience discovery exercises for 2 weeks to help you hone in on a buying market and meeting a need. As you begin to coalesce around a value proposition (originating from your audience discovery), we transition the workshops to business thinking and argument building exercises. Finally, you develop a pitch document articulating the problem you are solving, why it matters, your solution, why your target audience will adopt your idea and whether you have a sufficient audience to make your business/organization viable. In our last group session, you present to a panel of female entrepreneurs and early-stage funders. After you pitch, you meet with an advisor one-on-one to discuss pitch feedback and tighten your value-proposition. During your time with us, you will be invited to our Entrepreneur’s Clubhouse events and upon completion of the Lab, you will receive a certificate of completion and are eligible to join our ongoing topic-specific workshops. We will host special pitch events over the year and you will be invited to join. We add Labs and Workshops every month so let us know, through the “Join Now” button at the bottom of this page, if there are better times. When we have enough interest in a new time, we will add it and reach out directly to you. We can adapt this workshop for a specific group of researchers (by institution, focus area, etc). Do you want agency over developing your ideas in a safe and encouraging environment. Join one of our virtual cohorts and put your ideas into action. This 4-week Lab uses design thinking to help you build a compelling argument about the value of your idea and its business model. By the end of the Lab, you will understand the steps needed to develop an idea into a business and will have a “go” or “no-go” decision about moving forward. We start with a 3-hour “Hackathon” where you come up with an idea for a product/service to test. You can work in teams or individually. We then take you through a series of entrepreneurial-thinking and audience discovery exercises for 2 weeks to help you hone in on a buying market and meeting a need. As you begin to coalesce around a value proposition (originating from your audience discovery), we transition the workshops to business thinking and argument building exercises. You are also invited to post your ideas and pitch documents on our website. You can include the URL in your resume, LinkedIn and other outward-facing mechanisms that highlight your work. Our network of subject-matter leaders, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists are invited to look through the ideas/solutions which is a great way to get noticed in fields in which you are interested. Want to think about dissecting those things in life that get you up in the morning, energize you the entire day and keep you engrossed deep into the night? We all have moments of pure bliss where we lose track of time and emerge feeling awesome about ourselves and our work. This euphoria is very much what passionate entrepreneurs feel when their businesses are successful and growing and we each have the same capacity for that kind of joy. Achieving success is not based on passion alone. The process is just as important as the product and those entrepreneurs that execute on the process come away with clear steps on how to leverage who they are and what they have created to build personal and company value. We have adapted our virtual entrepreneurial thinking Lab to help you identify, develop and articulate your personal story. This workshop is one-part self-reflection and one-part narrative development. At the end of our four weeks together, you will have identified the key elements of your story and will have a roadmap for leveraging that value personally, professionally and/or entrepreneurially. We add Labs and Workshops every month so let us know, through the “Join Now” button at the bottom of this page, if there are better times. When we have enough interest in a new time, we will add it and reach out directly to you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Students - The Entrepreneurial Approach - Lab for Gap Year</image:title>
<image:caption>One-on-one coaching also available - contact AVL for details These are small group Labs allowing for individual, hands-on help. This 4-week Lab uses design thinking to help you form a compelling argument about the value of your idea and its business model. By the end of the Lab, you will understand the steps needed to develop an idea into a business and will have a “go” or “no-go” decision about moving forward. In our last group session, you present to a panel of entrepreneurs and early-stage funders. Posting is voluntary. We add Labs and Workshops every month so let us know, through the “Join Now” button at the bottom of this page, if there are better times.
